Ann Shelton Beth

In my paintings, I hope to capture that unseen quality in the landscape, the element that shapes how one might feel about a place. I try to see the truth about the landscape in the dynamic present. In that moment, I'm painting the changing light, shadows, reflections, and weather, all within the constant of stillness.

As artists, we do our best to translate the scene in front of us, sometimes changing a shape here and there without compromising the elements of the whole so much that the painting's place becomes unrecognizable.

So, in the end, we use a fluid, dynamic process to come
up with a fixed representation of time--how this comes together--dynamism and stillness--is always a mystery to me.
